3rd Ishigaki Shonan International Documentary Film Festival Call for Films

<Call for entries>
Films must have been produced after 1 January 2022.
Short film section: Documentary films of at least 5 minutes but not more than 15 minutes in length.
Feature film category (newly established from the 3rd edition): 60 minutes or more.
The film must be intended as a documentary by the filmmaker.
(Fact-based films and films that reproduce factual information are also eligible).

<Call for entries>

<Award>
A total of 200,000 yen is planned.
(The method of allocation will be determined according to the number of applications received and may be increased depending on the level of sponsorship.

<Entry qualifications>
International competition category (Points awarded to students or those over 60 years of age. Entries must be subtitled in Japanese.)

Domestic student A category (vocational school, university, postgraduate)

Domestic student B category (high school students and below)

Domestic Senior Section (60 and over)

General category (non-student and under 60 years old)

Location film category (Points are awarded to students or over 60 years of age. (Points are awarded to students or those aged 60 and over.)

Each of the above categories will be divided into a short film category and a feature film category.

The Grand Prize (Grand Prix) and the Audience Prize will also be awarded.

If there are no films that do not pass the first screening, the relevant category may not be awarded.

Additional categories may be added depending on the situation.

(1) Media format of the film Please submit the footage to Youtube or Vimeo and include the URL. If the video is password-protected, please state the password.
*Submission of video files via online storage is not acceptable.

(2) Please provide a 200-word summary of the work in an email.

(3) Please provide a biography of the director in about 100 words in the e-mail.

(4) In addition, please provide the required information.
 (title of film, number of minutes, name of director, name of submitter, address, telephone number and e-mail address).

(5) Films made in languages other than Japanese must be subtitled in Japanese.

(6) Be sure to send a scanned copy of the bank transfer statement from the entry fee remittance procedure together with the entry fee as an attachment. You can also attach a photo image of the bank transfer statement to the email.

First call for entries deadline: 30 Apr (Sun), 2023. 2,000 yen per film.
Second call deadline: 31 July (Mon), 2023. 3,000 yen per film.
Third call deadline: 30 November 2023 (Thursday) ¥ 4,000 per film.


Feature film category
First call for entries deadline: 30 Apr 2023 (Sunday), 30 Apr 2023. 3,000 yen per film.
Second call deadline: 31 July 2023 (Mon), 4,000 yen per film.
Third call deadline: 30 November 2023 (Thursday), 5,000 yen per work.

<Decisions on films to be screened in the Official Selection

The directors (or applicants) of the films nominated for the final selection in the first round of the 3rd Festival will be contacted by email.

Please note that the reasons for the selection decision cannot be answered. However, the final jury will critique the winning films at the screening venue.

Films to be screened officially at the Ishigakijima/Shonan International Documentary Film Festival must be submitted to the Secretariat on DVD (region-free or region code '2') by post or other means after notification of selection. Please note that DVDs provided for screening will not be returned.

<Handling of copyright>
The copyright of the work belongs to the entrant.
The copyright of the work belongs to the applicant.
Music used in the works must be copyright-free or with the prior permission of the copyright holder.
Partial use in cartoons, literature, television or film must be authorised in advance by the copyright holder.
After the Festival, the selected films may be published on the internet at the director's discretion.

<Points to note when submitting entries>
When submitting a film, the filmmaker must follow the necessary procedures regarding the copyrights used in the film. In the event of any infringement of rights or claims for damages by a third party, the entrant shall deal with such claims at his or her own responsibility and expense, and the organisers shall not be held responsible in any way.
