Toshio Tsuchiya, the jury president of the Short Films Competition, commented on why this film was selected for the Grand Prix: "The beauty of documentary work is that it is about 'shooting things that only this person can shoot. Izumi Yoshida's Beige Scene is a work that only she could have shot. The way he chooses the words that appear in the film in 14 minutes, and the sense of the words that appear in the tickers. The length of each scene is also a work that the director has been very particular about.
This is Izumi Yoshida's third film as a director. Despite the fact that Beige Scene was shot entirely with a smart phone, the film won the Grand Prix in the short film category, beating out a field of visual professionals.
